Johanna Faust, a mixed race Jew, prefers to publish pseudonymously. She is committed: first, to preventing war, ecological disaster, and nuclear apocalypse; last to not only fighting for personal privacy & the freedom of information, but, by representing herself as a soldier in that fight, to exhorting others to do the same. She is a poet, always. All these efforts find representation here: "ah, Mephistophelis" is so named after the last line of Christopher Marlowe's Dr. Faustus, whose heretical success flouted the censor for a time.

Tchernobyl: Second Explosion 'Which Would Have Wiped Out Half Of Europe' Was Feared, Fought, KEPT SECRET

From the intro:

"...yet it was thanks to these men that the worse was avoided -- a second explosion, ten times more powerful than Hiroshima, which would have wiped out half of Europe. This was kept secret [for the next 20 years] by the Soviets and the West alike. Many of these images have never been seen before..."

I didn't know that. Did you? I will see if I can dig up some broadcasts from the time -- let's see, April through November 1986. What were they telling us?  No harm to human health, no doubt.

My source:

 Be seeing you.
