Johanna Faust, a mixed race Jew, prefers to publish pseudonymously. She is committed: first, to preventing war, ecological disaster, and nuclear apocalypse; last to not only fighting for personal privacy & the freedom of information, but, by representing herself as a soldier in that fight, to exhorting others to do the same. She is a poet, always. All these efforts find representation here: "ah, Mephistophelis" is so named after the last line of Christopher Marlowe's Dr. Faustus, whose heretical success flouted the censor for a time.

OCCUPIER TELLS IT LIKE IT IS TO OAKLAND CITY COUNCIL
(MUST SEE VIDEO)

To those who, like me, struggle to wage peace daily, even if just to have a reason to get out of bed in these often miserable and lamentable days:

An object lesson. "Truth, And How To Know It When You See It."

Let us focus for a metonymical moment on the Occupy Wall Street movement as it has come to be in Oakland, California.

In the ongoing saga of OPD vs Occupy, the City Council was considering whether to make it against regulation for protesters to protect themselves with shields and masks from the tear gas, rubber bullets, and other not-so-less-than-lethal toys OPD loves to deploy.

Take a step back,  take a few moments, and listen to this chick.

Right ON.

The hot button issues that have proven effective honeypots for Occupiers, particularly those new to activism --- issues such as  white privilege, or the proper relationship to cultivate with representatives of the State and/or its power to enforce, or the value that activists ought to properly  place upon certain strategies, or 'tactics,' (you know the ones) if their actions are to be virtuous, relevant, or successful.  These issues come up almost as soon as we get anywhere.  They are  --  important, yes, relevant, yes, unfamiliar, no, not so much -- they are often at the bottom of regrettable inaction or perceived errors in judgement.

This chick rocks.

RIGHT ON.

Be seeing you.
